Director of the documentary Richard Milway with his award
The UEFA documentary, One-Armed Wonder – The Extraordinary Story of Jimmy Hasty - won the Emmy for Short Sports Documentary in New York last week.
The documentary tells the story of the 14 year old boy who lost his arm in an industrial accident but went on to play football.
He joined Dundalk FC in 1960 after being signed by Jim Malone and was the club's top scorer in the League winning team of 1962/63 season.
The following season, in the European Cup in an away tie to FC Zurich, he assisted in the first and scored the second in a historic 2-1 away win, which was the first away victory by an Irish side in a European competition.
Hasty had remained living in Belfast during his League of Ireland career and after he retired from playing.
He was shot dead during ‘the Troubles’ in October 1974 while he was walking to work, no one was ever charged for his murder.
