The Public Appointments Service have begun the process to appoint a new Louth County Council chief executive to replace outgoing CE Joan Martin, who has been in the position since 2014.
The chief executive has the lead role in developing and overseeing the organisational structures and resources needed to deliver an extensive range of services to the public.
Every local authority employs a chief executive to manage its operations, with the salary for the position of Louth chief executive currently standing at €171,138.
The chief executive is responsible for making decisions about the daily running of the authority, except for reserved decisions, which are made by elected councillors.
The chief executive's term is 7 years, with a possible extension of up to 3 additional years.
They also oversee the day-to-day management, including staffing and executing functions within the policy framework set by the elected council.
They also advise elected members on policy determination according to national guidelines and handle the implementation of these decisions.
