Robert Nash celebrating with him family
Fine Gael’s Robert Nash was “delighted” to be elected on the 7th Count in Dundalk South with 1515 votes, and was the second candidate to be elected.
The Fine Gael candidate was contesting his first election having been co-opted onto the council.
Speaking after his election Nash paid tribute to his family for all their support and help with his campaign.
Having been involved in many local community groups over the years Nash said it was local issues that people were concerned with.
He said: “That’s what it’s all about, that’s what people want to talk about [on the doorstep]. National issues are alright talking about housing and the HSE and they are important, but local people are worried about local issues, footpaths, stuff that affects them every day, sitting in traffic and things like that.
“On the ground that’s what a councillor is there for, looking after local issues for local people, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the last 25 years, between community work with football clubs resident’s associations and having put the work in I’m just delighted I’ve gotten over the line today.”
Speaking more broadly about a good day for Fine Gael, he said:
“It’s been a brilliant day for Fine Gael, we’ve worked very hard over the last six months, I’ve a great team led by John McGahon, Jamie McCourt and Director of Elections Jim Darcy. I think our leader Simon Harris has done a great job since he came in and [as things stand] we’re looking forward and we’re looking good.”
