Maeve Yore has topped the poll in Dundalk South for the second time running, taking the first seat in the LEA with a surplus of 637 votes.

An emotional Maeve Yore told the Dundalk Democrat that "I represent everybody in Louth. This is the second time as an Independent in local elections that I've topped the poll in Louth."

Commenting on issues that she has raised over the past five years, Yore said, "I go all over the county with issues. I had child sexual abuse survivors contact me last year, [they] contacted the 29 of us and I was one of very few that stepped up to the mark and supported them."

She continued, "Also the Dundalk Athletics Track, that another issue of mine that's ongoing this six years, I want to get it up and operational. Also, Irish Water is a joke. It's a Fine Gael quango, we have to do something about it, it's not fit for purpose.

“I work hard, I have integrity. We canvassed from Upper Creggan right through to Castlebellingham and we knocked on every door. We did as much as we could.

“Where there was “No Junk Mail” signs I didn't leave it, we ran a poster free campaign and I asked the rest of the councillors and candidates to run a poster free campaign, they wouldn't agree to it.

“This proves that posters and all their damage to the environment and all the cost to the taxpayers – you don't need a poster if you work hard when you do it over the past five years.”
