It was perhaps inevitable that it wouldn't be long before someone waxed lyrical in verse on Louth's momentous Leinster final win.
That said, the speed with which Carlingford's Michael Farrell has put pen to paper is impressive. He captures all that went on at Croke Park beautifully.

Reds On The Rise
Some ghosts were laid on Sunday
on Croker’s sacred sod.
We speak not of the hand of Joe,
But of the hand of God.
The first half was a chess game,
It hadn’t caught fire yet.
The Royalers had a handy lead
till Lennon burst the net.
At the change of ends, a turnaround
As Durnin ruled the skies
The wee men chipped away for points
The Reds were on the rise.
A stumble in the middle,
the Royals then snatched a goal.
But never fear, our boys are here
It didn’t break their soul.
Then came the crucial moment,
could this be all for nought?
Sam cast aside his mishaps
and kicked the money shot.
Some moments of composure,
Then Craig tagged on one more.
Then Conor found the Cusack
Cue, a mighty roar.
From Carlingford to Clogherhead
and all that’s in between,
We’ll laud our sporting heroes
Our Leinster-winning team.
But the image that will stay with me
As I sit and sip red wine
Is when Dermot flipped Delaney
Across the thin white line.
Case closed.
Michael Farrell. May 2025.
