Safer journeys for pedestrians and cyclists, improved access to local businesses and a better flow of traffic are among the benefits Louth County Council say are being delivered by the new Boyne Link Road in Drogheda, which was officially opened this week.

Funded by Louth County Council, the National Transport Authority and the Department of Transport, the new road links the Newtown Link Road with Boyne Business Park and the adjacent L-2307. The scheme includes a two-way carriageway, public footpaths and public lighting constructed to current road standards.

Designed to improve connectivity and support economic activity, the council say the Boyne Link Road will reduce traffic on the existing L-2307 while providing a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists travelling to and from nearby workplaces.

Cllr Declan Power, Mayor of the Borough District of Drogheda, welcomed the opening of the new road, saying: "The new Boyne Link Road is a very positive development for Drogheda. This new connection will make it easier for people to access local businesses and employment centres, while also creating a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists.

"Investment in infrastructure like this helps support economic growth, improves connectivity and enhances the quality of life for people living and working in the area. I am delighted to see this project completed and open for public use."

David Jones, Director of Services for Major Capital Projects and Infrastructure Delivery, said: "The Boyne Link Road is an important piece of infrastructure that will improve access to key employment areas while enhancing safety and connectivity for all road users. The completion of this scheme reflects the Council's ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports sustainable growth and meets the needs of local communities and businesses."

Louth County Council have thanked all relevant stakeholders who contributed to the scheme's successful delivery.
