Mannan Castle Golf Notes: Ladies power on through difficult weather

MANNAN CASTLE LADIES

The weather has not been friendly to the Ladies recently, with a couple of competition days rained off. Loraine Delkos topped the list of those who did manage to get out. A birdie on the par 4 9th hole was the cherry on the cake of her round, adding five pars over of the 13 holes, returning 30 points.

Despite the whims of the weather, the Ladies Winter League, sponsored by Daisys Clothing, Carrickmacross is reaching the business end as it enters the penultimate week.

Meanwhile, Thursday December 8th is certainly one to keep free in your diary as Mannan Castle Golf Club plays hosts to A Night with Candy Holden, the renowned florist.

Candy will show you how to decorate your house for the festive season. She'll definitely entertain you for the evening, plus you might even win a prize or two. It's always a great night out and everyone's welcome. Tickets are €15.

MANNAN CASTLE SENIORS

The seniors 11-hole weekly Tuesday competition saw exceptional scoring again. After the recent heavy rain, the course was in remarkable condition and is a reflection on the work of the grounds staff.

Seniors captain Tommy Duffy led home the field with 30 points. He had one 4-pointer and six 3-pointers on his card, with only one double bogey recorded.

Eddie Rouiller maintained his recent form and his score of 29 points was enough to finish second, despite a 3-point deduction for last week's win.

Eddie's nett score of 26 points was the best of four players on that score after countback. He finished ahead of past seniors’ captain Jimmy McMahon, who had a 1-point deduction.

Others missing out on countback included Denis Murphy and Sam Duffy. Unusually eight players were subject to deductions this week for past successes.

Tuesday 22nd November: 11 Hole Competition (Full Handicap): 1st Tommy Duffy (25) 30pts, 2nd Eddie Rouiller (25) 26pts (29-3) c/b, 3rd Jimmy McMahon (18) 26pts (27-1) c/b.
