Tesco Ireland has launched its annual Christmas Food Appeal, now in its ninth year, in partnership with FoodCloud. Taking place from Friday 2 December – Sunday 4 December, customers are encouraged to purchase items that will be distributed to those in need within their local communities.
Customers can add their donated products to trolleys at the front of the store, which will be attended by local good causes or OLIO Food Waste Heroes.
Donating just one item from the list will make a big difference to those in need. The following items are a guide for shoppers planning to donate products to the Tesco Christmas Food Appeal in stores.
Causes including Connect Family Resource Centre and Redemptories Mater will be attending trolleys in stores across Louth. This time last year, Tesco stores in Louth collected almost €2,500 worth of product for local community causes.
Now in its ninth year, the Tesco Food Appeal has collected almost €1.5 million in food donations and shared with those in need in communities nationwide.
Tesco was the first retailer to partner nationally with FoodCloud in 2014, working to ensure no good food goes to waste. Through the Tesco FoodCloud partnership 2.5 million meals were donated in the 2021/22 financial year with the FoodCloud partnerships leading to almost 17 million meals since its inception.
OLIO Food Waste Heroes will be supporting in select stores, encouraging customers to donate what they can. Complementing our ongoing work with FoodCloud, Tesco is the first major grocery retailer to work with food sharing app OLIO in Ireland. OLIO works with volunteer ‘food waste heroes’ who visit stores to collect surplus food and redistribute it to the local community.
For the first time, this year, Tesco will be the first major retailer to host a Food Appeal online. Running until 4 December, customers shopping on Tesco.ie have the option to donate €2.50 or €5, which will provide pasta, sauces and other staples. All product donated going directly to FoodCloud causes.
