Mannan Castle Golf Notes: Angela Gartlan secures victory in Committee Cup

MANNAN CASTLE SENIORS

Tuesday's weekly seniors’ competition proved that steady error-free golf will usually win the day. This is especially true in 9-hole golf, where one mistake can make all the difference.

Jim Hanratty played that steady round, keeping double bogeys off his card and taking advantage of his handicap to record 22 points for his 9 holes.

Jimmy McMahon played equally well but a double bogey on the par four 2nd was costly, resulting in a score of 21 points. David Murphy took third place on countback with a very good score of 19 points.

MANNAN CASTLE LADIES

Maureen Crawley's Sunday round was truly blessed. Inspired play across all 13 holes, with a fantastic par on the 2nd, added up to a whopping 30 points to win this Winter competition by five clear points.  

Things were much tighter among the chasing pack.  Three timely pars inched Ali Ellis into second with 25 pts from seven players who all finished one point back on 24 points. 

Margaret Flanagan's numbers proved decisive on the countback to make the third spot her own. Congratulations to the winners and well played everyone.  

Ladies 13 Hole Weekly Competition (9th Nov): 1st Maureen Crawley (PH 28) 30pts, 2nd Ali Ellis (PH 21) 28pts, 3rd Margaret Flanagan (PH 33) 24pts.

A shout out to our greenkeepers and our member volunteers, the course is in fantastic condition for this time of year. The greens and tee boxes are in tip top condition

It is great to see everyone playing so well and contributing to their Winter League teams, where the standings are changing week by week and there's everything to play for.  

The Committee Cup was played for on Saturday 12th November. The weather cooperated, with the course in cracking condition. Especially for the time of year.

Even though 18 holes were open, the competition was played over 13 holes because of the daylight.  It was the Ladies Club PRO Angela Gartlan who took home the trophy with a score of 30pts. 

In second place was a man who is constantly working on the course with the Mannan Gangers (Course Volunteers) Pat McDonnell, with 29pts and in third place with 28pts was Fergal O’Rourke.
