Average rents in Louth exceed €1,000 for the first time
The standardised average rent in Louth for residential properties has exceeded €1,000 and is now €1,022 per month, according to the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) Rent Index for the last three months of 2018, which has just been released.
The average rent had reached €1,000 by the middle of 2018 and had decreased to €979 by the end of the third quarter of the year, before jumping back up and reaching €1,022 by the end of the year.
It represents a 7.6% increase on 2017,
Louth was one of seven counties where the standardised average rent exceeds €1,000 per month. Dublin, Wicklow, Meath, Cork, Galway and Kildare were the others.
The high rental levels in these areas relative to other countries reflects the concentration of demand close to the country’s largest employment hubs.
Focusing on Dundalk and its two electoral regions; Dundalk Carlingford and Dundalk South, a large difference can be seen in the average rents.
Dundalk Carlingford, which includes north Louth, reported a standardised average rent of €865.55 but Dundalk South, which includes Blackrock, reported a figure of €1,076.
The average standardised rent in Ardee was reported as €1004 and Drogheda reported €1094.80.
