Just one out of the seven potential candidates for the upcoming presidential election, that were expected to address Louth County Council at a special meeting this evening, turned up for the event.

Gavin Duffy was the only potential candidate turned up this evening to address the council and seek their nomination.

The meeting in the chamber this evening lasted just under an hour, with Mr Duffy first setting forth his stall to the room full of councillors, followed by questions from the councillors.

When talking to the council members, Mr Duffy spoke of the five key pillars under which his presidency would be based upon.

His five key pillars are as follows:

  • Youth
  • Age and creating "a truly caring environment for our old people"
  • Diversity and inclusion
  • Respect
  • Working together

Louth County Council will meet again on 17 September to decide if they will nominate a candidate for the presidential election and who that candidate will be.
