CSO figures released today, show that the total number of babies born in the first three months of 2018 in Louth, is the exact same number as in the first three months of 2017.

457 babies were born to mothers living in Louth between January and March of this year. 262 of these were male and 195 were female.

From January to March 2017, 457 babies were born to mothers living in Louth. 230 were male and 227 were female.

The birth rate in Louth in Q1 of this year, was 14.0. This means that 14 babies were born for every 1000 people in Louth. This is just slightly higher than the State birth rate of 13.1.

247 deaths were registered in Louth in the first three months of this year. 130 of these were male and 117 were female.

72 of these deaths were caused by malignant neoplasms, 60 by diseases of the circulatory system, 32 by diseases of the respiratory system, nine by external causes and 74 by all other causes.
