Assurance that endoscopy service to continue in Dundalk welcomed

Louth Sinn Féin Cllr Anne Campbell

Sinn Féin Councillor Anne Campbell, also a member of the HSE Regional Health Forum, has welcomed the recent assurance from the hospital group in charge of the Louth County that the nurse-led endoscopy service will continue.

Cllr. Campbell sought the assurance at the recent meeting of the Dublin-North East forum about the status of the service, which provides a method for the early detection of cancer, and says she is pleased with the response.

In reply to a question from the Dundalk South councillor, the RCSI hospital group chief executive Ian Carter, wrote:

"There is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner who has scheduled Endoscopy sessions in both Louth County Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.  There are no plans to change these provisions'.

Cllr. Campbell said:

“I very much welcome the response and am pleased to hear that this much-valued service, which assists in the early detection of cancers, will continue at the Louth County Hospital and that is certainly good news for the people of Dundalk and North Louth.”
