Shane De Rís is the new Trinity College Dublin, Student Union President
A former pupil of the Marist in Dundalk has been voted in as the new President of Trinity College Dublin's Student Union.
Shane Rice, running as Shane De Rís, was elected on the third count - winning 52 per cent of the vote.
The St Marys College alumnus ran on a platform of "refocusing the SU", promising to focus in on student centric issues such as funding and student accommodation.
De Rís is a Junior Sophister Irish and German student at Trinity and is a former Trinity Hall JCR President.
He lead after the first count and was named the victor after the third with a total of 1,694 votes, beating Michael McDermott to the presidency.
Shane's mother Bernie joined him at the vote count as the Dundalk local emerged victorious. He graduated from the Marist in 2014, leaving to study at Trinity were Irish and German were his first choice subjects.
