Ardee Community School pupils presented a cheque worth €1,101 to two charities this week, the proceeds of their Christmas Jumer Day held before the students broke off for the festive holidays.

Organised by the school's 'Amber Flag' committee, all students in the school were encouraged to wear a Christmas jumper with prizes awarded for the very best jumper in each year group. It was a very enjoyable day and held on December 21st, all of the students were very much in the festive spirit.

Each participant contributed €2 with the monies collected going to two charities. €825 was presented to SOSAD, the suicide prevention charity while €275 was given to Strengthening Families’, a charity helping families going through difficult situations.

The Amber Flag in Ardee Community School committee was set up to promote mental health awareness in the school. It is made up of students from all year groups. Eileen Clarke, fifth year is Chairperson, while Ciara Callis, fifth year is Assistant Chairperson and Conor McMahon, fifth year is Secretary. The liaison teacher is Ms. Sarah Crilly.

Ms. Carmel Hancock, from Sosad, vistited the school last week to accept their generous donation.
