LOUTH fisherman Niall Connolly is eagerly awaiting the arrival of his new boat which comes with a hefty €3m price tag.

Niall from Clogherhead is investing €3m in a new 23.99m prawn vessel called the Stella Nova which is being fitted out at Mooney Boats in Killybegs.

“All of the steel work was done in Poland then it was towed from Poland to Killybegs and arrived there in July,” said Niall.

“Works in Killybegs include all wiring, piping systems, carpentry, fishold fit-out, engine installation, and steering systems.”

Niall, his wife, Emer, and their three children – ten-year-old twins Sarah and Aoife and eight-year-old Darragh – are all excited about their new boat.

“We sold the old Stella Nova to Union Hall and had another boat built three years ago. This is a big undertaking but it will be far more efficient,” he said.

Niall has already assembled the Stella Nova's crew. They include skipper Darren O'Brien who is living in Dundalk but is originally from Drogheda.

Other members include Darren O'Reilly from Clogherhead, Dmitrijs Bobko from Latvia, James Byrne from Castlebellingham, John Harmon from Dunleer and Ernest Worobeij from Poland.

The Stella Nova is due for delivery to Niall and Seamus Connolly in the middle or at the end of January next.
