The cross being removed.

The moment the cross atop St Joseph's Redemptorist was removed by builders has been caught on camera. It appears the workers used a concrete saw and the Democrat understand it's being taken down temporarily to allow for building work to continue.

St. Joseph's Redemptorist Church and Monastery in Dundalk is undergoing major refurbishment work.

The monastery on the St Alphonsus Road, is being upgraded with an extension being put on the back of the back of the building and a new roof being fitted. After nearly a century and a half of use, the building is being modernised.

The moment was captured by local man Brendan Connolly.
