An Táin Arts Centre in Dundalk hosting events celebrating Brigid 1500

An Táin Arts Centre says it is delighted to host three events as part of the upcoming Brigid 1500 celebrations.
Brigid: Lady of Light, brought to you by Louth County Council, is a new theatrical retelling of the life and times of Brigid of Faughart, Co. Louth, by local and community artists.

Marking 1500 years since Brigid’s passing, this performance combines poetic storytelling, live original music, singing, and dance in a stunning celebration of a towering and beloved figure of local and national significance in Irish history, and folklore.

On Saturday 3rd February the celebrations continue with Brigid’s Symbol and Customs Workshop as part of the Brigid of Faughart Festival at 10:30am.

Learn to weave the iconic Brigid’s Cross and the Crios Bríd, (Brigid’s belt) – ancient symbols of Brigid and share stories of Brigid’s days past with local artists Roisin Cotter and Maura Lennon.

Then on Monday 5th February at 11:30am, Rita O’Loughlin will demonstrate how to make a Brat Bhríde, an Irish tradition of decorating scarfs which bring blessings and protection to the wearer, during the My Brat Bhríde Workshop.

Brigid: Lady of Light is on 1st and 2nd of February at 8pm. Tickets are €15 plus €1.50 booking fee per ticket.

Brigid’s Symbol and Customs Workshop is on Saturday 3rd February at 10:30am. Tickets are €10 plus €1.50 booking fee per ticket, and My Brat Bhríde Workshop is on Monday 5th February at 11am. Tickets are €10 plus €1.50 booking fee per ticket.
