Louth County Council Library Service says it was delighted to host a ‘Decade of Centenaries’ event, with the launch of ‘Local Context and Connection: An Exhibition’ at Dundalk Library on December 6.

As commemorations for the Decade of Centenaries draw to a close, Louth Library Service has taken the opportunity to reflect on this turbulent and transformative time in Ireland’s history.

Nine topics were chosen, seeking to provide a representative view of the entirety of Louth at that time.

The exhibition presents information on these topics, including: the ambush at Rockmarshall in north Louth, the Dundalk jail break, the Boyne Obelisk, the Great War, the bombardment of Millmount, Cumann na mBan: Ardee Battalion, Coastguards, Courthouses, and Railways.

The exhibition will remain in Dundalk library until Friday 2 February and is available to view during library opening times.

Booking is not required and everyone is welcome. The exhibition will travel to all Louth Library Service branches in the coming months.

Louth County Council says it would like to acknowledge the support of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
