Renowned graphic artist Omin said he is delighted to announce his first solo show, ‘Ill Communication’, will be on show at The Basement Gallery, An Táin Arts Centre, Dundalk. The show will officially be opened on Thursday 23rd November at 7pm, all welcome.

The free exhibition will run from the 24th November to the 22nd December 2023, with opening hours from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Omin’s illustrious career stems from a 27-year passion of painting graffiti.

Omin, who is from Dundalk, and a graduate of Dublin Institute of Technology with a BA honours degree in Visual Communications, is a full-time artist who splits his time working across a variety of mediums and surfaces ranging from large-scale murals, canvas works, and explorations in print.

His murals can be seen across the country, with recent commissions including Wexford Festival Opera, Waterford Walls, Kinsale Arts Weekend (KAW), and the Monaghan Murals Project. He has painted in cities from New York, Barcelona, Lisbon, to London.
‘Ill Communication’ is a body of work created by Omin that looks at how we perceive and interact with information.

At present the pulse and vibrancy of the natural human condition coexists within a digital age. We as humans are living organic structures, susceptible to the world around us. Our interactions and visual stimulus are increasingly fed through digital media, where the two worlds blend.

In the pursuit to find harmony within these two realms Omin uses painting, print, and digital media to explore the contrasts, the mishaps, and discoveries made throughout this journey we call life.

Omin has exhibited his work both nationally and internationally.

In September, he was invited to display two pieces in the curated group exhibition ‘Concrete x Canvas’ at Outset Gallery, Galway, which featured a stellar line up of visual artists.

He also showcased his work in the ‘Conceptual’ exhibition at the Glass Box Gallery, Brooklyn, New York in July.He is known for his work with the SEEK Urban Arts Festival in Dundalk and was a commissioned artist on An Táin Arts Centre’s futuristic sci-fi

Countywide treasure hunt Louth Culture Quest which was funded by In the Open / Faoin Spéir for the Arts Council of Ireland.

He has two paintings in the Municipal collection, purchased as part of Taiscé Lú (Louth’s Treasure Trove).

Speaking about his first solo exhibition Omin said: "It’s a dream come true to be hosting my very first solo show in the town where I grew up.

“I am honoured and excited to present ‘Ill Communication’ in the Basement Gallery at An Táin Arts Centre.

“This exhibition is a culmination of different areas within my practice from painting, print, to digital media, and hopefully a few surprises in between.

“This body of work explores the use of different mediums and is an expression of how we communicate and connect in this modern world.”

Director of An Táin Arts Centre Paul Hayes said: “We have been collaborating with Omin for the past number of years on projects such as Louth Culture Quest and we are delighted to host his first professional solo gallery exhibition at An Táin Arts Centre.

“He is an artist of unique vision, most well-known for outdoor murals and graffiti so it’s really exciting to see what a full solo exhibition from him will look like in the Basement Gallery.”

Ill Communication will launch on Thursday 23rd November and will run from 24th November – 22nd December in the Basement Gallery of An Táin Arts Centre, Crowe St, Dundalk. Opening hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 4pm.
