Dundalk Chamber host Budget Breakfast

Dundalk Chamber held their 24th Budget Breakfast on Wednesday with over 190 attendees attending.

As usual the guest speaker was from EY, Ernst and Young. This year it was Colin Spence

The event, sponsored by PayPal featured guest speaker from  Ernst and Young Colin Spence, who set out the changes in income tax, Corporation Tax VAT and others.

The Chamber members welcomed the retention of the VAT at 9% for energy,  the increased rate bands and credits for income tax. 

In a statement they said:

“The rise in the rate of Corporation Tax for very large companies was a commitment to the OECD . The rise in R+D credit was a welcome development.

“Business was glad to note that there were no surprises or change of direction.

“Members did express concern over the lack of tax and PRSI regulations dealing cross border workers particularly with the increased use of remote working post Covid. There are a number of practical issues that require attention.

“Paddy Malone, PRO of the Chamber reminded all that in last year’s budget we had succeeded in amending the scheme which allows employers to efficiently reward staff with shop local vouchers.

“He encouraged all to place their orders early. He also reassured the members that both he and Una McGoey, President, had raised the issue of cross border workers; housing; transportation and other matters during our Budget lobbying.

“Paddy took the opportunity to wish Cormac McCann and his staff all the best with the new identity of The Gateway Hotel and thanked him for the service this morning.

“The Breakfast was attended by Sean Kelly, Cathaoirleach Dundalk Municipal Council; Paula Butterly Cathaoirleach Louth County Council, Senator John McGahon.”
