Mannan Castle Golf Course
MANNAN CASTLE MEN
With the schools back, that only means one thing, blue skies and sunshine.
This weekend didn't disappoint with beautiful golfing conditions throughout the weekend.
No surprise there was a big turnout for Kevin our Professional as he has been a key part of Mannan Castle for over 12 years now.
The winner of this years prize was Con Hanneffy with a brilliant score of 41pts.
Con has been playing some great golf of late, and it showed on his card with a front nine of 21pts and coming home with 20pts to win the final major of the year.
In second place was Mark Lambe. Mark shot a 4 under par back nine to finish on 40pts.
Michael Connolly finished in third place with a score of 39pts.
It's Michaels second podium finish in little over 10 days.
The gross prize went to Tomas Pepper. Tomas shot a 3 over par round, which included two 2s on the 12th & 17th holes.
A special mention to Tony Donagher who won nearest the pin with a brilliant shot (64 inches) and yes, he got his putt for a 2 also. Congratulations to all the winners.

MANNAN CASTLE LADIES
Three Lady Waltz Open
On Monday, Mannan Castle hosted a Three Lady Waltz Open jointly sponsored by McGuinness Poultry Farms Ltd and Tara Gartlan Chocolate
The format, on the first hole, only the best score is recorded.
On the second hole, the two best scores are recorded, and on the third hole, the scores of all three players are recorded.
This sequence is then repeated on the fourth hole. Easy right? Seemingly not!
It felt like we were playing on continental Europe, blue skies and glorious sunshine, a great day was had by all, and the course was stunning under the September sun, thanks to Tommy and Amy for the delicious food and cool drinks.
First team out gelled nicely together and retained their clubhouse lead Geraldine Finnegan, Mary Cassidy, and Mary McCabe.
This trio had a mediocre start but when all three parred the third hole to score nine points, they were smiling, 37points on the front nine and 38points on the back helped by a lovely birdie from Geraldine on the twelfth hole.
The steady triad of Jo Barry, Kitty Sharkey and Madeleine Devine were second with 76points.
This team told me that they left a lot of shots out there, I guess they didnt realize how bad the rest of us played!
Their worst hole was the sixth hole with only one scoring when three scores were needed.
However, this triad had a whopping 40pts on the back nine, to finish with 36pts, which secured their second-place finish.
Third place team was Denise McGuinness, Bridie Fitzmaurice and Evelyn Brady, this group just played solid golf, and waltzed home scoring on nearly all the holes.

Ulster Womens Silver & Broze Medal Regional Qualifier
Ulster Womens Silver & Broze Medal Regional Qualifier was held in Rockmount Golf Club.
Marie Finnegan (silver medal) and Angela Evers (bronze medal) represented Mannan Castle and did us proud.
A huge congratulations to both girls who had a great day, but especially Angela Evers who was second in her division, with a net 76.
Angela will play in the All Ireland Bronze Medal Finals October 4th in Headfort GC.
Ladies Weekly Competition
An excellent week to show good form on the course with the always superb Hampers sponsored by Moriarty Transport up for grabs for the lucky winners.
A mighty back 9 which included consecutive pars on the 15th, 16th and 17th saw Denise McGuinness make a sprint to the finish line and take top spot this week with 37 points.
Three players finished two behind on 35. Despite a few duck eggs on her card, Dearbhla Crawley still had enough in the tank to take second place on countback from Geraldine Finnegan who also made a quick dash for the finish by including pars on the final two holes.
Congratulations to the winners and well played to everyone who played in welcome heat and sunshine.
