Establishment of working group for Ice House Hill step in right direction says Dundalk councillor

Ice House Hill in Dundalk

Cathaoirleach of Dundalk Municipal District, Cllr Seán Kelly, has said that the establishment of a working group for Ice House Hill in Dundalk is a step in right direction for the overall upkeep of the park.

Cllr Kelly was speaking following the Dundalk Municipal District September meeting where his motion calling for the establishment of a working group to discuss the ongoing upkeep of Ice House Hill Park was passed.

The motion had been put forward in light of issues at the park over the past number of months which culminated in Carmel Naughton, the main sponsor of the Park, in writing to the local papers outlining her pressing concerns.

Cllr Kelly's motion called for a representative of the four residents groups in the area namely: O'Hanlon Park, Pearse Park, Northend and Demense, to meet along with a representative from the Naughton Family and local councillors to discuss areas in which the park could be improved. The group would meet on a quarterly basis and raise issues directly with council management.

In comments to the Dundalk Democrat Cllr Kelly said that "the overall upkeep of the Park has been a concern for locals in recent years due to areas being overgrown, graffiti and the general pond area.

"A lot of progress has been made in the summer months since this conversation began but there is more to do with the footpaths and ornamental lights surrounding the park. We now have a vehicle in this new working group to drive progress for the benefit of the whole community."
