Farrell Furniture & Ardee Community School have joined forces to provide fixed term contracts to students to introduce them to the working environment and to broaden their experience.
This collaboration will give students the opportunity to work for the summer, undertake seasonal work or full-time employment in many different sectors across the company such as; warehousing, saws and veneer, combi and bore, assembly, edge finish and UV, dispatch and more.
Before applying to Farrell, Ardee Community School will prepare the young people to get ready for working life by ensuring that they have their own bank account, safe pass, manual handling course, a provisional licence, a CV and good interview skills.
Anthony Durnin, Construction & Woodwork Department, Ardee Community School explains that “the idea was born from the school wanting to develop links with local businesses to cater for students who have no real interest in pursuing college degrees and want to enter the working environment.
"Earn as you Learn’ is a slogan that we encourage here at Ardee Community School. We have known both Brendan and Paul Farrell over the years and how successful Farrell are as a business and important they are to the town and we had an idea to link the woodwork department in the school with Farrell and they were very happy to accept”.
Talking about the partnership, Brendan Farrell Joint-CEO of Farrell Furniture said: “We are delighted to work with the students and teachers of Ardee Community School and to invest in the young people of the town, our future workers and leaders.
“Our corporate social responsibility policy is to ensure that we give back to our community and this is what this collaboration does. It is an opportunity to give back to the community that has supported our business for almost 62 years”.
Starting off as a passion between two brothers Ollie and Paddy Farrell in 1961, the company has come a long way.
Now in its second generation, Farrell is the largest employer in the town of Ardee with over 130 staff.
The collaboration is set to begin in the Summer of 2023 with meetings already underway. Students must be aged 16 years and over.
