St Peters AC send strong team to Leinster Juvenile Championships

Conor Duff of St Peters had a strong run in the boys U13 600M Final

The St Peter’s club had a small group of athletes travel to the fantastic Tullamore Harriers Stadium for the Leinster Juvenile Championships. The weather was glorious, only to be out shone by the athletics on view.

Ellen McCourt and Ella Murphy were both in action in the girls U10 long jump and 500M race. This is a pair’s competition, and both really acquitted themselves extremely well. They were well up on the long jump finishers table, but it was in the distance race that both performed exceptionally.

Ellen McCourt finished second in the heat and Ella Murphy was also high up in her heat. When the results were tallied up the girls learned that they finished just outside the medals with a fourth place finish, but they gained invaluable experience.

Abbie Murphy competed in the girls U11 600M and long jump. Such is her dedication and appetite for athletics, this fine young athlete competed very well in both comps, even though it was a pairs competition and she was on her own.

Knowing that regardless of how well she done she couldn’t medal, undeterred Abbie gave her all and was in the business end of both events.

Sadbh Sheelan ran in the girls U13 600M and 60M sprint. Although Sadbh did well in both, her best performance was in the 600M. With a bad start, she battled her way through the field and narrowly missed out on a place in the final but can take great pleasure on her ever-improving performances.

Conor Duff had a strong run in the boys U13 600M, qualifying for the final with a relatively comfortable 2nd place finish. He was competitive in the final also and was very unfortunate, finishing just outside the medals.

All five athletes can be really proud of their performances and the experience gained from this championship will stand to them in the future.
