Artist Orlaith Cullinane is giving audiences a behind the scenes visual tour of the process of making a piece of bronze sculpture.
Orlaith - who trained in London and Belfast and is now based in Bridge Street Studios Dundalk - is holding an exhibition in the Gallery there titled Plans for Statues- Showing the Process.
With this collection of work Orlaith traces the evolution of her ideas from a few lines in charcoal through to a solidified form in bronze.
The exhibition includes video, drawings, sketches and collages in 3D, clay models and bronze sculpture.
The artist has been training in sculpture processes in recent years with NCAD and Fire Station Studios in Dublin.
In 2022, with support from Create Louth, she travelled to the Fonderia Artistica Versiliese in Tuscany, Italy, and worked alongside artisans there to cast a bronze work.
This piece is shortly to be exhibited in the Society of Women Artists show in The Mall Galleries, London and also at Sculpture in Context in Botanic Gardens, Dublin.
In the exhibition, visitors will be able to see the messy playing around and experiments that go on in the background to reach a polished finished piece - using household materials like tinfoil, toys, plaster, wire and fabric.
There is also a short video running showing the casting of the bronze in the foundry.
Orlaith is an Armagh native with an extensive CV of national and international exhibitions and residencies,. Her work is multidisciplinary- using drawing, print, sculpture, painting and installation - and largely focuses on living beings and landscape.
She is most interested in using the human figure to create stories of everyday transfiguration.
The launch with a wine reception is open to the public, at 7pm Thurs Jun 15th,. The exhibition runs from Fri Jun 16th - Sat Jun 24th, opening hours Tues - Sat 10-4.30pm
