Louth County Library
Louth County Council Library Service are taking part in Ireland Reads a campaign to get the whole country reading this month in the lead up to a national day of reading on Saturday, February 25th.
Irish libraries have teamed up with publishers, booksellers, authors, and others for the campaign, which is part of the government’s Healthy Ireland programme and aims to celebrate reading and all the benefits it can have for wellbeing and enjoyment.
The campaign is asking everyone to ‘Squeeze in a read’ on Ireland Reads Day, Saturday, February 25th. The pledge to read can be made at www.irelandreads.ie
The website also offers book recommendations suited to a person’s interests and the time they have available. There are more than 1,500 recommendations from librarians all around the country for all interests and reading levels.
Events
To celebrate Ireland Reads Day, author and illustrator Alan Nolan will visit Dundalk Library at 11am and Drogheda Library at 3pm for a fun and interactive workshop.
The workshops are suitable for children age 8-12yrs and booking is essential. To book your place contact Dundalk Library on 042 9353190 and Drogheda Library on 041 9876162.
Other events during February in Louth Library Service include storytime, Baby Book Club, Parent & Toddler mornings, book clubs, poetry reading group, crafts, LGBTQ+ coffee & chat with book recommendations for all ages.
Local Ireland Reads ambassadors include Louth journalist and author Barry Landy, author Florence Gillan who was featured on the RTE programme ‘Page Turners’ recently.
Authors Nicola Pierce and Nicola Cassidy return as local ambassadors along with LMFM Radio Presenter Sinead Brassil.
Louth Coutny Council library service have also announced two episodes on the Louth Library Service Podcast “Let’s Get Louth” for Ireland Reads 2023.

Acting County Librarian Amanda Branigan is inviting everyone to take part, visit their local branch library in Louth and squeeze in a read, while reminding people that library membership is free.
