Make-A-Wish Ireland make urgent call for volunteers from Dundalk

Make-A-Wish® Ireland, the charity who grant wishes to seriously ill children throughout the  country, are issuing an urgent appeal to the public for volunteers from Louth to support them by offering their time on Wish Day, 28th April 2023.

Wish Day, taking place on Friday, 28th April 2023, is Make-A-Wish’s annual donation day. As  well as raising important funds to help Make-A-Wish grant magical wishes to children living  with life-threatening illnesses, it raises awareness of childhood illnesses and acknowledges  the bravery of wish children and their families.

With a €100,000 target to raise, Dunnes Stores has given permission to Make-A-Wish Ireland  to carry out bucket collections in their stores nationwide on ‘Wish Day’ 28th April 2023. With over 20 sites to coordinate, including in Dundalk and Drogheda, Make-A-Wish desperately needs volunteer support from  generous members of the public nationwide.

Volunteer shifts will run across two, four-hour blocks from 9-1pm and 1-5pm at participating Dunnes Stores throughout Wish Day, 28th April, and all volunteers will be provided with  training, t-shirts and collection buckets. In Louth, volunteers are needed for Dunnes Stores at Marshes Shopping Centre in Dundalk and Scotch Hall Shopping Centre in Drogheda.

Susan McQuaid-O’Dwyer, CEO of Make-A-Wish Ireland said; “Wish Week is one of the most  important weeks in our calendar. With over 200 children on our waiting list and after a  challenging few years of fundraising due to the global pandemic, we want to make 2023 our  most successful year yet.

"Ireland is well-known for its generous spirit, and we hope we can  attract volunteers nationwide to help us deliver on this very important day for seriously ill  children. Make-A-Wish receive no government funding and we rely entirely on the  generosity of the public and on corporate support.”
