Cllr Yore seeks update on €7.4million regeneration plans for north end of Dundalk
Louth County Council hopes to appoint a consultant this month, for the first stage of the €7.4 million regeneration, of Bridge Street, Linenhall Street and surrounding areas at the north end of Dundalk, councillors were told at the Louth County Council January meeting.
Cllr Maeve Yore sought an update on how Louth County Council was progressing with the regeneration plans, for which the local authority was awarded €7.4 million under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, in March 2021.
Responding to Cllr Yore, Director of Services, Catherine Duff, said that the Council had received one fee proposal for the first phase of the regeneration plan, and was reasonably confident that that the consultant appointment would take place this month.
The first phase of the plan is for the regeneration of Bridge Street, Linenhall Street, Northgate Street, and the Peace Park. It is understood that this would include improved streetscapes as well as residential units above some of the commercial units in the area.
Ms Duff also told the meeting that the Council hopes to go to tender for the second phase of the project in the first quarter of this year. The second phase of the project is understood to include regeneration of the back lands surrounding Bridge Street and Linenhall Street, as well as the Compulsory Purchase Order for some of the derelict properties in the area.
