Dundalk sees annual increase of almost 20% in number of people signing on

Dundalk has seen an annual increase of almost 20% in the number of people signing on the Live Register according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

3,639 people signed on the Live Register in Dundalk in December 2022, up from 3,049 in December 2021 and representing a rise of 19.4% in the number of people signing on.

On a monthly basis, it is an increase of 104 on the number of people who signed on in Dundalk in November 2022.

Overall in Louth, the number of people signing on in December 2022, was up 1,045 or 15.4% on December 2021. It was also up by 146 on November 2022.

The smallest annual increase in Louth was seen in Ardee, with 804 people signing on in December 2022 compared to 719 a year earlier, representing a rise of 11.8%. 

On a monthly basis however, Ardee saw the highest increase in Louth, with 37 more people signing on than November 2022, a rise of 4.8%.

Drogheda saw an annual rise of 12.3% in the number of people signing on, with 3,390 people signing on in December 2022, compared to 3,020 a year earlier. It saw the lowest monthly increase however, with just five more people signing on than November 2022.

Nationally, the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for December 2022 was 185,700 persons, up by 300 people or by 0.2% from November 2022. All counties saw an increase in the number of persons on the Live Register in the 12 months to December 2022.

The counties that saw the greatest increase in the number of people on the Live Register in the 12 months to December 2022 were Kerry (38.1%) and Clare (33.6%). The counties with the lowest increase in numbers on the Live Register were Meath (3.6%) and Tipperary (0.9%).
