Road closures confirmed for popular Dundalk Half Marathon

During the closure, a signed diversion route will be in operation

Motorists in Dundalk are being advised of temporary traffic restrictions next month to facilitate the Dundalk 10K Half Marathon.

Louth County Council has confirmed that Francis Street will be closed to public vehicular traffic from 5.30am until 2.00pm on Sunday, February 1, 2026, to allow the popular race to take place safely.

The closure will affect Francis Street (R215) from its junction with Crowe Street to its junction with The Magnet Road, covering a distance of approximately 321 metres.

During the closure, a signed diversion route will be in operation. Traffic will be diverted westbound via Seatown Place (R172), then south via Jocelyn Drive (L20014), continuing westwards along Ramparts Road (L20051) before rejoining the normal road network.

In addition to the full closure on Francis Street, rolling road closures will be in place along sections of the race route throughout the morning. Louth County Council has stated that diversions will be clearly signposted and that local access will be maintained where possible, though some delays should be expected.

The Dundalk 10K Half Marathon route will take in a number of central and suburban streets, including:

  • Francis Street

  • Magnet Road

  • Clanbrassil Street

  • Bridge Street

  • Riverbank (footpath)

  • N52 (footpath sections)

  • Fairgreen Road

  • Newry Road
