A youth-led Dundalk 3 side ensured their Division 20 status for 2026 with a home victory over fourth-placed Tyrrelstown 5 Saturday last.
Dundalk were asked to field first and dominated early on with the ball. Star performer Mohammad Emran continued his great run of form with a rapid-fire 5-wicket haul to remove Tyrrelstown’s opening five batters.
His first 5-fer in Dundalk colours left the visitors a precarious 40-5 after 11 overs.
A couple of late partnerships spearheaded by Dinesh Arunmozhi and not-out no.10 Saviour Fernandez frustrated Dundalk, who could not limit their opponents to a sub-100 total.
However, there was a moment worth savouring as talented youth member Vihaan Jodhani closed out the innings by taking his first senior wicket for Dundalk, his father Jiwan taking the catch.
Chasing a low-pressure target of 119, Dundalk didn’t get off to a bright start either, with Kapil Paija Pun and Abaas Zahidi both dismissed for a run apiece. 9-2 after nine overs became 25-3 three overs later as opener Hassan Bukhari fell for 14.
Skipper Sumit Kumar entered at number 5 and went on to play the captain’s innings his side needed, hitting six boundaries on his way to 41 not out off 56 balls to secure victory inside 30 overs.
Mohammad Emran contributed a fine late cameo of 21 off 13 balls to add to his match-ball performance in the first innings.
Elsewhere, Dundalk’s first team were once again victims of rain with a washed-out home fixture against Lucan 2 on Sunday 7th.
Their Division 10 fate now lies in the hands of Mullingar 2, who can relegate them by avoiding a heavy defeat against fifth-place Pembroke 4 on Sunday.
