After Dundalk won the toss and elected to bat, Patil’s opening partner Pauric McCrum was caught at third man first ball, his third career golden duck. Wicket-keeper Shibu Uthaman fell shortly after to leave the town 29-2 seven overs in.
A stoic effort followed for the third wicket, with club stalwart Regin Samuel playing a steady knock alongside Patil which saw the hosts through the drinks break without further damage inflicted.
Their 18-over, 122-run partnership was Dundalk second-highest of the season. A late cameo from Dundalk 2’s leading run-scorer Sibi Alex helped lift Knockharley’s target to a challenging 226.
The Meath side struggled, keeper-captain Killian Molloy being dismissed during an opening wicket-maiden over from Dundalk’s Adarsh Hegde.
Thavnesh Uttam Sharma, who heroically led Knockharley to victory in the reverse fixture, hit 31 striking at 100 to provide some resistance but lacked support from his batting partners.
Hegde closed the innings out in style, taking two caught-and-bowled wickets in consecutive deliveries to lead the seconds to a second league win on the trot.
Dundalk 2 now climb to fifth in Division 18, in a great position to survive the drop with one game remaining.
Poor weather across the province the day before led to the first team’s away tie with Pembroke 4 being rained off in the first innings, while the thirds were forced to abandon their Hiney Park fixture against Division 20 leaders County Cavan 2.
This weekend’s league fixtures: Dundalk 1 v Lucan 2 (Division 10, Sun 7 Sep, home), Dundalk 3 v Tyrrelstown 5 (Division 20, Sat 6 Sep, home).
