The Embassy Snooker Club wrapped up another successful Embassy Open this week, with Benny Traynor taking home the title after a clean sweep against Ken Byrne in Tuesday night’s final.

Traynor showcased impressive form and took the match 5-0 including a standout 70-point clearance in one frame.

Club owner Derek Hernon told the Democrat: “The Embassy Open final was on Tuesday night and it was between Benny Traynor and Ken Byrne which resulted in a 5-0 win for Benny Traynor.

“It sailed on nicely but Benny seemed to be a bit strong for Ken and had a 70 clearance in one frame and won quite comfortably throughout the night.

“I would like to mention that we had great sponsorship from Michelle Byrne in the Bodhrán Bar who donated some cash towards the prize.

“Also, Boylesports who joined us this year for the first time and donated cash towards the prize money, and Tony's Pizzeria who every year supply us with some food during the competition for people who are spectating and watching the game.

“We had 43 entries and I would like to thank everybody who entered and contributed to the competition.”

Hernon added: “We also had a breakup competition which was called the Embassy Plate Competition and the winner was Martin McGuigan who beat Mickey Fee 4-0.

“It was so much fun to run it and it was a great laugh for everyone who was there.”
