'Money mule' didn't benefit from scam, Dundalk District Court told

A 20-year-old man who acted as a so-called 'money mule' did not benefit from the scam, a sitting of Dundalk district court was told last week.

Edvinas Lapinskas with an address at Riverside Drive, Red Barns Road, Dundalk admitted a money laundering offence, relating to €599 at a location within the State on November 8th 2023.

Court Presenter Sgt Richie Browne outlined who the victim had received a call from an unknown number and was told that the sum of money had been fraudulently transferred through Google Pay.

The Defence solicitor said his client, works as a mechanic in a tyre shop, had allowed his account to be used but did not benefit financially and €600 in compensation had been paid.

After hearing the defendant had no previous convictions, Judge Nicola Andrews applied the Probation of Offenders Act.
