Dundalk Courthouse
A Jordanian national who was charged with public order offences after he was abusive at a local IPAS centre, was given the opportunity at Dundalk District Court last week to avoid a conviction.
The court heard gardaí received a report of a highly intoxicated man causing a disturbance at the Carnbeg Hotel, Armagh Road, Dundalk shortly before 3am on November 17th last year and 27 year old Mahmoud Hamam had approached them in a threatening and aggressive manner.
The Defence barrister said his client, who has been in the country for 16 months and works as a baker in Finglas, doesn't ordinarily consume alcohol.

After the lawyer urged the court not to record a conviction, as Mr Hamam's application for international protection is still live, Judge Nicola Andrews put back the case to October 15th for the payment of €300 to the court community fund.
A fine of €1,000 would be imposed along with a conviction if that payment is not made.
The Judge addressing the defendant said "I don't want to see you here again" and told his barrister "If he can't handle his drink - he shouldn't drink it."
A charge of assault was withdrawn.
