Dundalk court
A man who tried to enter a mobile phone contract using a fake Cypriot driving licence, was arrested as it was flagged on the phone store's system, was sentenced to 120 hours community service at Dundalk District Court last week.
Vasilica Stan (30) of Holywell Lane Apartments, Feltrim Hall, Swords pleaded guilty to having custody of a false driving licence at the 3 Store, Marshes Shopping Centre, Dundalk on June 13th last and a further fraud charge relating to inducing another to accept it as being genuine.
The court heard two weeks earlier that the defendant had attended the premises the day before and attempted to enter a contract for a mobile phone and a tablet by producing a fraudulent Cypriot driving licence, which was flagged on the system as having been used a number of times in other stores.
He was met by gardaí when he returned to the Dundalk store the following day.

The driving licence had his photo on it and a false name.
The defendant had 26 previous convictions.
His barrister told the court his client has a good employment history and works as an airport check-in agent and stressed that he has been in custody for some time.
The case was adjourned so his suitability to perform community service could be assessed and last Wednesday, Judge Nicola Andrews imposed 120 hours in lieu of a four months sentence.
