A mother has pleaded with Dundalk District Court to send her son to prison so he can get the help he needs. and she said she's afraid of her life that he will "die on the streets".
When the 28 year old man's case was called, his solicitor said his client was asking to go into custody as he's doing very badly at the moment and he asked that one or two minor matters that had gone back to October, could be brought forward for finalisation.
Court Presenter Sgt. Richie Browne told the court that the defendant had taken out a green blade with a sharp point on it at the Market Square on June 18th last and was seen to take it from his trousers and discard it on the ground.
It was seized and placed in an evidence bag and he was arrested later the same day at The Crescent Dundalk for being intoxicated in a public place for his own safety and the safety of others.

The court heard an order was in place on March 18th last, when gardai were called to a report of 'a domestic' at his mother's home where he had threatened to smash the house, before damaging €60 worth of ornaments in the sitting room.
On June 17th, he was arrested by armed gardaí following a report of a man threatening to smash windows.
The defendant had 54 previous convictions.
His solicitor said his client is addicted to drugs - tablets and cocaine and alcohol is also a problem for him.
The man's mother told Judge Nicola Andrews she was afraid of her life that he "is going to die on the streets" and added "I want him to go to prison to get help. When he's not on drugs he's a good lad".
The woman continued that he "needs to go away...I'd be happy. I'd know where he is".
Judge Andrews imposed a six month sentence for the Domestic Violence Act breach and a concurrent six months for the knife offence.
