A 31 year old man who Dundalk District Court was told had stuck up both middle fingers at gardaí on mobile patrol, while there was a large crowd present, has been sentenced to 60 hours community service in lieu of a one month sentence.

Daniel Madejski with an address at Park Street, Dundalk was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and using threatening abusive or insulting behaviour at Francis Street, Dundalk on June 29th last.

The court heard the defendant, who had eight previous convictions including three for public order offences, had been shouting obscenities and claimed to be a member of the IRA and gardaí had received several complaints from members of the public.

The Defence solicitor who apologised for his client's behaviour on his behalf, said the Polish national was celebrating his birthday and had too much to drink.
