Gardaí urge vigilance after string of burglaries in Dundalk and North Louth

Gardaí have urged the public to ensure their property is secure and power tools are locked away

The local community in Dundalk and North Louth is being urged to be on the alert following a string of burglaries in the area. 

Gardaí received reports of two separate burglaries at homes  in Jenkinstown  between 4:15am and 4:45am last Friday, 24th January. Garden equipment and power tools were taken from sheds.

Another burglary happened between 3:50am and 5am on Thursday, 23rd January at a home in Ravensdale, Dundalk. Power tools and electronic equipment was taken.

Power tools and an item of electrical equipment were also taken during another burglary at a home in the Ravensdale area between 3:30am and 3:40am yesterday, Tuesday, 28th January.

Gardai say investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Dundalk Garda Station on (042) 938 8400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Gardaí have urged the public to ensure their property is secure and power tools are locked away and not left in vans. They also say to make sure entrance gates are closed and security lights are working. If you have CCTV cameras, they say to make sure they are in working  order and clean from cobwebs and serviced regularly.

Gardaí are also requesting early morning road users/lorry drivers to keep a look out for suspicious persons, vans or cars in the community.

Cooley Peninsula Community Alert have announced that there will be property marking  this Sunday from 10am-12pm at St Patrick's GFC Lordship  and marking 1pm to 3pm after that in the carpark of the Four Seasons Hotel, Spa and Leisure Club Carlingford .  

Locals are urged to get items marked. 

They said: “We have yet to have anything taken that was marked and it's FREE. This will be done by members of Carlingford Garda Station and this group.

“In relation to the recent spate of burglaries please be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to An Garda Siochana as soon as possible. Gardai are out on patrols and report all suspicious behaviour no matter how small.”
