A man who was spotted rummaging through a car by its owner, was still carrying a bunch of flowers and was drooling from his mouth when he was arrested, after she phoned gardaí and gave a description of him, Dundalk District Court heard last week.
Darren Crawford of no fixed abode was charged with getting into the vehicle at the Long Walk, Dundalk on December 16th last year when change and a pair of sunglasses were taken from the central console.
The 27 year old was also before the court for a public order offence at the Market Square on July 4th last, when he became abusive to gardaí responding to him shouting at passerbys.
The court heard he had nine previous convictions.
The Defence said Mr. Crawford recognised he has significant difficulties and while he is now off tablets, he doesn't have a treatment place yet although his family have helped him to get off them.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a four month sentence, which she suspended for 12 months on the defendant entering a Probation supervision bond and adhering to all conditions and commendations of the Probation Service.
