Come along, bring a friend, and see what they’re about
Back in 2011, a handful of young people walked through the doors of M.A.D Youth Theatre in Dundalk with big imaginations and a love for drama. Fourteen years later, M.A.D is an award-winning youth theatre, recognised for their work in the arts and in the community.
This September they are holding our 15th Open Day, and are inviting young people to come along.
M.A.D (Making Alternative Drama) is a place to try something new, grow in confidence, make friends, and discover the power of creativity. No experience needed, just curiosity.
This past year has been a special one. They premiered Salt Mountain by Carmel Winters, partnered with TRY Theatre (Rijeka, Croatia) for their Erasmus+ exchange Theatre Without Borders, created living tableaux for Cruinniú na nÓg’s Eternal Frame, attended Youth Theatre Ireland’s national festival in Kilkenny, joined the Young Critics programme, ran residentials, their Little Drama Festival, launched a youth filmmaking strand, and celebrated the ever-colourful MAD Couture Project.
But the best way to understand M.A.D is to hear from the young people:
“I came in nervous, but after the first workshop I felt like I’d found my second family.” — age 14
“M.A.D gave me the confidence to use my voice, not just on stage but in life.” — age 16
“It’s the place I can be myself. I’ve made friends for life here.” — age 17

They welcome young people from all walks of life. There is so much to take part in including workshops, performances, festivals, film, trips, and more. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
