A standing ovation greeted the premiere of “To The Moon”, a deeply inspiring documentary about local legend Collette O’Hagan, which screened last night at An Táin Arts Centre.
Directed by Dundalk native Conor McGinnity, the film chronicles the extraordinary life of the 75-year-old grandmother, athlete, and foster mother to 88 children — who, against all odds, completed her 1,000th marathon in October 2024.
The documentary is an emotional, uplifting celebration of resilience, compassion, and the unbreakable spirit and drive of a woman who has quietly become one of Ireland’s most remarkable unsung heroes.
Promotional material for the documentary says that "McGinnity captures both the endurance of an elite athlete and the tenderness of a mother who opened her home — and heart — to dozens of children over the decades."
“I wanted to show the world what we in Dundalk have known for years — that Collette is nothing short of phenomenal,” said McGinnity during a post-screening Q&A. “She’s a role model not just in terms of what she’s achieved, but in how she lives every day — with purpose, humour, and huge love.”

"The evening was made possible thanks to the generous support of Dundalk Credit Union, whose commitment to community storytelling helped bring this project to life. The Drone Guys provided stunning aerial footage that beautifully captures Collette’s journey on foot through Ireland’s breathtaking landscapes. Sincere thanks also go to An Táin Arts Centre for hosting the event, and to Conlon’s Food Hall, whose hospitality and refreshments made the night a true celebration."
With further screenings and festival submissions on the horizon, “To The Moon” is already making waves.
