"Someone will be killed" - Concerns raised about Carrick Road roundabout in Ardee

A senior engineer with Louth County Council has warned that "someone will be killed" if repairs are not made to the Carrick Road roundabout. 

Ardee councillors raised concerns about road safety, traffic congestion and flooding, as officials provided an update on ongoing and planned works in the town. 

Independent councillor Jim Tenanty told January's meeting of Ardee Municipal District, about the condition of the Carrick Road roundabout, where he said three road signs and lights are now missing. 

Enda Murphy, Senior Executive Engineer with Louth County Council said the council was aware of the problem. He noted the lights at the roundabout have also gone and "every sign on it's gone".

He said the council will act swiftly to erect new signage on the roundabout. 

"We will get the signage up in the meantime before we do a proper job...because we can't leave it for six or eight months or somebody will be killed," he said. 

No timeline was given for when the works would be completed.
