Investigations are underway after an elderly woman died in County Louth following a road crash involving a truck and two cars.

Gardaí say they attended the scene of the fatal incident at Bridge Street, Ardee at around 11.25am on Friday.

"The driver and only occupant of one the cars, a woman in her 70s, was brought by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where she was pronounced deceased," said a garda spokesperson who added that a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

No other injuries have been reported and the road remains closed to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct an examination of the scene.

The incident happened just hours before the Funeral Mass of Dylan Commins from Ardee which took place at the Church of the Nativity of Our Lady, Ardee on Friday afternoon.

The 23-year-old was one of five young people who died in a horror road crash outside Dundalk last weekend.

Gardaí in Ardee are appealing for witnesses to this Friday's incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and who were travelling in the area around the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
