Dundalk Gaels 2-10 St Brides 0-13

Dundalk Gaels maintained their three-point lead at the Louth GAA Division 2 summit thanks to this victory over St Brides on Sunday afternoon at The Ramparts.

In what proved to be an entertaining contest throughout, the Dundalk side just had the edge thanks to goals from Dylan McKeown and Thomas O’Connell.

The hosts were quick off the mark with points from Jack Mullen and Tom O’Connell before McKeown scored the opening goal of the game to put his side in command.

The Brides came storming back and edge in front approaching half-time, however, a late two-pointer from McKeown saw the Gaels go in with a 1-5 to 0-7 lead.

Despite having a McKeown penalty saved on 36 minutes, the Gaels added a second goal soon after to stretch their lead.

Once again the Knockbridge side hit back but the Dundalk side responded in the closing stages as two late points from O’Connell saw them over the line.

Stabannon Parnells 0-15 Young Irelands 2-9

Stabannon Parnells and Young Irelands played out an entertaining draw in this Division 2 encounter at Stabannon on Sunday evening.

The result means that the hosts slip back to third in the table and are now three points adrift of leaders, Dundalk Gaels.

The Young Irelands had the slight edge in the first half and went in at the break with a 0-8 to 0-6 advantage.

The visitors added two goals in the second half but Stabannon remained in touch and seven points from Harry Butterly, along with five from Sean Reynolds, helped them take a share of the spoils.

Bobby Butterly, Robert Callaghan and Ryan Shevlin were also on target for Parnells.

St Kevins 0-19 Glen Emmets 1-15

St Kevins secured a hard-fought one-point victory over Glen Emmets at Tullyallen on Sunday afternoon in round 8 of the Division 2 League.

Cameron Maher got the visitors off to an excellent start, hitting three points in the opening four minutes. His first score came after just under three minutes, followed by a two-pointer from play.

Glen Emmets responded with a brace of two-pointers from play to edge ahead only for Lee Crosbie and Jacob Finlay to restore the Kevins’ advantage by the end of the first quarter.

However, the hosts enjoyed the better of the second quarter and by the time the half time whistle sounded, they had opened up a 0-10 to 0-7 lead.

Although the Philipstown side hit three points to level the game just after the restart, it looked as if the Emmets had taken a decisive lead when an Eoghan Maguire goal put them six ahead.

However, the introduction of Cian Callan sparked the Kevins into life and with Cameron Maher taking his tally to 11 points with a two-pointer in the closing stages, the visitors claimed victory.

Kilkerley Emmets 2-18 O’Raghallaighs 1-11

Kilkerley Emmets comfortably defeated O’Raghallaighs at home on Sunday evening in Division 2.

The teams are at the opposite ends of the table, and it showed as Emmets dominated throughout while the Hoops struggled for consistency.  

Under-20 panellist Cormac Mallon capped a fine start for the hosts with a goal to push Kilkerley 1-8 to 0-2 after 20 minutes of action.

The response from the Drogheda men came from the usual sources. Midfielder Eoin Moore found the net alongside top scorer Kyle McElroy.

Midway through the second half young Luke Shevlin put the game beyond any doubt with a tidy goal.

Mattock Rangers 4-10 Clan na Gael 1-11

Mattock Rangers got back to winning ways over Clan na Gael at home in Collon on Sunday evening.

The contest showered goals as well as the intermittent downpours, as wing back Tom Grimes ended up with a match winning hat-trick for Rangers.

Liam O’Hanlon impressed again for Alan O’Neill’s side but Rangers were always in control thanks to youngster Grimes who collected the match ball with two great second-half goals.

Fellow Ardee CS classmate Sean Flynn also got in on the act, while Mark McGeown nipped in for a late goal for the Ecco Road men.

Roche Emmets picked up all two points on offer against home side Oliver Plunketts to surge up the Division 2 table.

Under 20 panellist DD Reilly got his confidence up ahead of Wednesday’s All-Ireland Final with a powerful showing. That scoring could be massive against Tyrone.

Space will be a little tighter than Mell but Barry O’Hare would still find the range, while the one-sided affair was kept interesting thanks to Luke Haggans left boot.

The goalkeeper’s four points in total put a nice sheen on proceedings but both sides are going in opposite directions.
