Sean McDermott's 0-14 Nh Malachi 1-9

Sean McDermotts chalked up their third win of the John O'Neill Sand and Gravel Louth Division Three League campaign with a victory at home to Nh Malachi on Thursday evening.

In what proved to be a tight contest throughout, the McDermotts had to overcome an interval deficit before claiming victory by just two points.

Paudie Moley was in fine form for the visitors, and he was among the scores as the Mals went in at the break with a 0-6 to 0-5 lead.

However, Daniel Commins caught the eye at the other end and he finished with ten points to inspire his side in the second half, with Kevin McMahon, Emmet Duffy and Danny Commins also contributing scores.

Darren Clarke scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot to keep his side in contention but it wasn’t enough to take anything from the game despite points from David Begley and Stephen Kelly.

Glyde Rangers 1-18 Westerns 2-7

Glyde Rangers made it two wins on the bounce in Division 3 as they proved too strong for Westerns in Tallanstown on Thursday evening.

A strong second half display saw the hosts gradually ease away from the Westerns with a goal from Cormac Lundon helping them to complete the victory.

Oisin Lynch, Tadhg Kellett and Brian Duffy led the charge for Rangers as they fired over some impressive scores. However, the visitors were competitive throughout and a goal from Conor Kerr cut the gap to just 0-9 to 1-4 at half time.

Despite Kerr adding a second goal for the Reaghstown side after the restart, it was Glyde who took control of proceedings. Lee Finnegan and Conor McAuley came off the bench to add points to their tally, while Lundon raised a green flag.

John Mitchels 0-14 Na Piarsaigh-Blackrock 0-1

John Mitchels made it seven wins from seven with a victory over Na Piarsaigh-Blackrock in Ballybailie on Saturday night.

Despite the Mitchels pulling ahead with points from Trevor Matthews (3) and John Bingham (2) along with scores from Gareth Kane, Jake Gillespie and Ruairi McCann, Na Piarsaigh stayed in touch with well taken points including two two-point frees from Ciaran Murphy to leave the half time score 0-8 to 0-7 to the Mitchels.

The second half was a cagey affair, but the hosts pulled away to open up a 0-14 to 0-7 gap with scores from Trevor Matthews, John Bingham and Aaron Keely while the defence limited the Naps to a two-pointer free and a single point.

Ciaran Murphy finished with eight points for the visitors while Jamie Fealy, David Boyle and Robbie Murphy were all on target, but it wasn’t enough to rescue anything from the game.

John Mitchels: Stephen Campbell; Barry Kirk, Shane Crosson, Aaron Kane; Mikey Nulty, John Bingham (0-3), Jake Gillespie (0-1); Trevor Matthews (0-7), Aaron Keely (0-1); Adam Keenan, Ruairi McCann (0-1), James Sands; Tristan Knowles, Gareth Kane (0-1), Andrew Bingham.

Lannleire 5-19 Dowdallshill 0-4

Lannleire saw their recent revival continue as they eased to a comfortable victory at home to Dowdallshill on Saturday evening.

The Dunleer men rattled in five goals on the night, with four coming in the opening half as the contest was done and dusted by the interval.

Bob Murphy scored the opening goal of the game on six minutes before Aaron McArdle and Colin Murphy weighed in with three-pointers inside a minute just before the end of the first quarter. Paul Doyle scored the fourth to make it 4-10 to no score at the break.

Dowdallshill improved in the second half and did get off the mark with four points. However, Lannleire had the final say as Darragh Goodman slotted home the fifth goal on 59 minutes.

Lannleire: Colin Murphy 1-2, Aaron McArdle 1-2, Bob Murphy 1-1, Paul Doyle 1-1, Killian Gregory 0-4, Darragh Goodman 1-0,  Alex Carroll 0-2, Cian Kearney 0-2, Luke Dunne Boylan 0-2, Ciaran Dunne 0-1, Mark Grogan 0-1, Ian Mulroy 0-1.

O’Connells 8-15 Annaghminnon Rovers 1-9

O’Connell’s took a trip to Stonetown on a beautiful Saturday evening to take on Annaghminnon Rovers in round seven of the Division 3 league.

In a game dominated by goals, O’Connell’s managed to get eight in total from six different goal scorers, to ensure that they would return to winning ways after last week’s defeat.

The game started perfectly for the visitors, with Robert Quigley opening the scoring after three minutes with a point, followed swiftly by a Cian Geeney goal to leave O’Connell’s 1-1 to no score ahead after five minutes.

From there, O’Connell’s kicked into gear with back-to-back points from Harry Kierans and Robert Quigley extending O’Connell’s lead out to six.

If things were bad for the hosts, they only got worse when Niall Conlon found the back of the net for the visitors’ second of the game to put O’Connell’s 2-3 to no score ahead.

This was followed up a minute later by Adam Flynn, with the cornerback driving forward to add a third goal to O’Connell’s tally. From this position, O’Connell never looked back.

Points from Sean Cairns, Robert Quigley and Cian Geeney extended O’Connell’s lead to 15, before Harry Kierans found the back of the net for the game’s and O’Connell’s fourth goal.

Two further Robert Quigley points split by a Jackie Agnew effort ensured O’Connell’s took a very commanding lead into half-time, with the scoreline standing at 4-9 to no score.

Annaghminnon Rovers started the second half significantly better than the first, with the hosts finally getting on the scoreboard with a two-point effort.

Despite this, O’Connell’s were not about to allow a comeback to gain momentum, with Evan Kearney finding the back of the net for the fifth goal of the game.

The hosts would finally get a run of scores following this, getting four of the next five scores only broken up by a solitary Cian Geeney point.

Niall Conlon was able to add on another score for O’Connell’s before Annaghminnon Rovers added two more scores, including a goal of their own.

Not to be left out of the fun, Sean Cairns added a goal of his own for O’Connell’s sixth of the game, before Niall Conlon added the visitors' seventh from the penalty spot.

Two more Niall Conlon points and Harry Kierans finding the back of the net for the second time ensured that O’Connell’s rounded out victory in style.

O’Connell’s: Bernard Osborne; Adam Flynn (1-0), David Hoey, Tadgh Kearney; Alan McGovern, Justin Cooney, James Walsh; Jackie Agnew (0-2), Sean Cairns (1-1); Harry Kierans (2-1), Niall Conlon (2-3), T.J Conlon; Cian Geeney (1-2), Robert Quigley (0-6), Evan Kearney (1-0).

Subs: Conall Clerkin for E. Kearney, Leo Walsh for T. Conlon, Evan Kearney for S. Cairns, T.J. Conlon for J. Agnew.

St Nicholas 0-11 Wolfe Tones 2-11

Wolfe Tones left Jimmy Pentony Park with all two points following victory over rivals St. Nicholas to take second position outright at the top of Division 3.

A strictly fundraiser the night before didn’t have any negative effects on the winners and seemed to unite them further.

The first-half goals kept them in the game when the hosts were on top. Liam Gaffney again found the net for the winners, and Mark Healy also rattled home to lead 2-3 to 0-7 at the turn.

Despite Paudi Downey’s accuracy, Karl O’Connor’s home side could not muster the required push to reel in those two first-half strikes. Bragging rights once again belong to the Junior Champions.

Wolfe Tones scorers: Garrett Cooney 0-6, Liam Gaffney 1-1, Mark Healy 1-0, Sam Kelly 0-2, Rory Taaffe 0-2.

St. Nicholas scorers: Paudi Downey 0-5, Dylan Brogan 0-2, Hayden Quinn 0-2, Tadhg Martin and Alex Finegan 0-1 each.

Nh Fionnbarra 4-11 Cuchulainn Gaels 0-16

Nh Fionnbarra maintained their pursuit of Division 3 leaders John Mitchels with a victory over Cuchuiainn Gaels on Saturday evening in Omeath.

In a high-scoring affair, it was the Barrs’ eye for goal that proved decisive as they recorded a fifth win of the campaign.

Two first half goals set the visitors on their way as they established at 2-5 to 0-4 lead at the short whistle.

James Sharkey led the Gaels revival in the second half as he took his tally to 11, helped by kicking four two-pointers, while Adam Sharkey (4) and David McQuaid were also on target.

However, it wasn’t enough to deny the Finbarrs, who returned home with a fifth win of the season.

Cuchulainn Gaels: Shea Quigley; Euan McArdle, Sean Brennan, Luke McGovern; James Sharkey 0-11 ( 4 x 2p), Martin Hynes, Jamie Molloy; Micheal McCabe, Dylan Lynch; Philip McGovern, Rammie Phillips, David McQuaid 0-1; Adam Sharkey 0-4, Cian McDonald, David Reilly.

Subs: Seamus McCabe for D Lynch, Aodhan O’Hanlon for C McDonald, JP Elmore for R Phillips.
