Woodview Celtic 0-3 Muirhevnamor

Three clinical strikes earned Muirhevnamor three points against a gallant Woodview team in the opening game of the U12 Premier Division on Sunday morning.

Both sides traded early chances in the game played in the Fairgreen, with Kyron McGee heading narrowly wide from David McCourt’s accurate cross and at the other end, Woodview’s Diarmuid O’Rourke was unlucky to see his snap-shot bounce off the outside of the Muirhevnamor post.

Pauric Lee was a constant threat to the Woodview defence and he crept in behind the last defender in the 12th minute to sweep McGee’s pass to the back of the Woodview net.

The home side went close to an equaliser on 22 minutes when O’Rourke’s inswinging corner only needed a touch, but it was the visitors who scored again soon after when McGee slotted home from the penalty spot after referee Ciarán Caldwell awarded the ‘Mor a penalty for handball.

Woodview came out in the second half determined to get back in the game, but Muirhevnamor’s two-goal cushion helped them play with confidence and Dennis Meegan went close soon after the restart. He was, however, denied by a fine save from Woodview goalkeeper Caoimhe McGee.

The save seemed to inspire the Woodview team as they launched several attacks searching for a way past Muirhevnamor’s well-organised defence. A superb pass from Keane McArdle on 42 minutes set-up Malik Osem, but his effort flew inches over and minutes later a rasping strike from Ryan Heywood struck the top of the Muirhevnamor ‘bar.

The hosts were now on top in their best spell of the game and Blues ‘keeper Femi Akinyele had to be at his best to deny two well-struck long-range efforts by McArdle

Conall Rogers was also very unlucky to see his goalbound strike deflected onto to the woodwork by a Muirhevnamor defender.

The game was put beyond Woodview four minutes from time when McGee scored his second of the game when he pounced to score from close range and Muirhevnamor almost scored a fourth goal in the final minute, but McGee produced another brilliant save to deny Lee.
