Dundalk Youth Centre took runners-up honours in the Community Youth Initiative category at this year's IPB Pride of Place Awards

Dundalk Youth Centre was among the organisations recognised at this year's IPB Pride of Place Awards, taking runners-up honours in the Community Youth Initiative category in acknowledgement of its outstanding work with young people in the area.

The award, presented at a gala ceremony in the Convention Centre Dublin, recognises the centre's commitment to supporting, empowering and creating opportunities for young people across the community.

Louth County Council also nominated the Ardee Care & Repair Project in the Age Friendly Initiative category. While the project did not secure a podium position this year, Louth County Council said its nomination reflects the outstanding work being carried out to support older people in the Ardee area.

Often referred to as the ‘Oscars of the Community Sector’, the IPB Pride of Place Awards celebrate the exceptional efforts of communities across Ireland.

Hosted by broadcaster Joe Duffy, this year's awards took place at the Convention Centre Dublin. Now in its 25th year, the competition is sponsored by IPB Insurance and coordinated by Co-operation Ireland.

Cllr Dolores Minogue, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, said: “I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Dundalk Youth Centre on this outstanding achievement and would like to commend Dundalk Youth Centre and Ardee Care & Repair Project for representing County Louth with such pride at the IPB Pride of Place Awards.

“Their dedication, community spirit and commitment to improving the lives of others make a real and lasting difference throughout their communities.

“The recognition received by Dundalk Youth Centre is richly deserved and reflects the positive impact it continues to have on young people and their families.

“Equally, the nomination of Ardee Care & Repair is recognition of the invaluable support it provides to older members of the community. Both groups exemplify the very best of volunteerism, partnership and community leadership.”

Thomas McEvoy, Deputy Chief Executive, Louth County Council, added: “This recognition is a testament to the passion, commitment and hard work of everyone involved. Dundalk Youth Centre's runners-up award is a significant achievement and a fitting acknowledgement of the outstanding opportunities and support it provides for young people.

“The nomination of Ardee Care & Repair is also a tremendous accomplishment and highlights the vital role it plays in supporting older residents.

“Both organisations showcase the very best of community initiative and volunteerism in County Louth, and Louth County Council is delighted to see their efforts recognised on an all-island stage.”

Louth County Council congratulated everyone involved in both projects and thanked the volunteers, staff and supporters whose commitment, it added, continues to strengthen communities across the county.
