Lannleire and O’Connell’s maintain top spot in Division Three

Lannleire 3-19 Dowdallshill 1-2

Lannleire maintained their position at the top of Louth GAA John O’Neill Sand and Gravel Division Three League thanks to this routine victory over Dowdallshill on Friday night.

The Dunleer men made the trip to St Brigid’s Park with the aim of making it seven successive wins, and they comfortably achieved their objective against the league’s bottom team.

A brace of goals from Ian Mulroy and another from Brendan Cassidy did the damage for the visitors on a one-sided affair.

It was Mulroy who found the net in the opening period, while Killian Gregory was on target on his way to a personal haul of six points as his side took a 1-12 to 1-0 lead into the interval.

Danny Kerr scored the goal for the Hill that had them leading briefly at 1-0 to 0-2 inside ten minutes.

The Clans laid the foundation for the victory with a dominant first-half display that saw them establish a 13 point advantage, after which there was no way back for the hosts.

The Castletown side took charge of the game from the opening whistle, with Liam O’Hanlon very accurate in attack, while Jason Cullen scored the only goal of the game to see his side lead by 1-12 to 0-2 at the break.

Wolfe Tones remain in the top four in Division 3 thanks to this four-point win at home to St Nicholas on Saturday night.

Second-half goals from Rhys McGovern and Patrick Fanning were instrumental in helping the Tones earn the bragging rights after this Drogheda derby.

The first half proved to be a cagey affair, and when the short whistle sounded, the hosts held a slender 0-5 to 0-2 advantage.

However, both teams raised their game in the second half, and although the Nicks found the net through Ross Brady, it was the Tones who had the edge and ensured they came out on top with goals from McGovern and Fanning.

Eoghan Brennan also raised two orange flags while Chris Cudden weighed in with another.

Naomh Malachi 2-11 Sean McDermotts 3-8

Naomh Malachi and Sean McDermotts celebrated their first point of the Division 3 campaign when they played out a draw at Courtbane on Saturday night.

The hosts looked set for victory until Daniel Commins landed a late point to earn a share of the spoils that lifted both sides off the bottom of the table.

The opening period was heavy on goalmouth action, and the McDermotts took the early initiative when Emmet Duffy scored the first goal of his hat-trick.

However, the Mals turned the game around with two goals in a minute from Conor Nicholason.

Just before the break, Duffy kept his side in touch with a second green flag, but the hosts led by 2-4 to 2-1 at the interval.

The Seans dominated the third quarter, and Duffy’s hat-trick goal was part of a run of 1-7 without reply.

The Mals responded well and turned things around with some well-taken scores, including a two-pointer from Andrew Begley, but in the end, it was Commins who had the final say to ensure the game ended level.

The Tallanstown side needed a strong second half to ensure they made the short journey home with both points after an evenly matched first half.

The Westerns battled well in the opening half and had a goal and point from Oisin Drumgoole, along with a Matthew Kane point to show for their efforts.

However, Glyde, with the help of an Olin Crosbie penalty goal, went in at halftime with the 1-4 to 1-2 advantage.

The second half was a different story as Glyde dominated from the outset, adding a second goal from Aaron Devlin, while Leigh Byrne brought his tally to three on a night when Shane Mullany and Gerard Bourton were also on target.

Killian Crosbie accounted for the Westerns’ only second-half score.

Ciarán Markey got the ball rolling with the opening score, but they didn’t add to that until Niall McCreesh pointed in the 15th minute, and then followed up with the first goal of the game from Cillian McQuillan.

The Omeath men did get off the mark on 28 minutes, but a two-pointer from Matthew O’Reilly saw the Barrs lead by 1-5 to 0-1 at the break.

The home side raised the pace in the third quarter and had points from McCreesh (2p), Stephen O’Reilly and McQuillan before William Woods added a second goal from a penalty.

Niall Conlon grabbed the headlines for the winners as he bagged an impressive 1-10, while Justin Cooney and Cian Geeney also raised green flags on the way to a seventh successive win.

The game at The Grove saw the home side get on top from the opening whistle, and it was Conlon who set the tone with the first goal of the game.

Rovers were finding it difficult to stem the tide, and O’Connell’s pressed home their advantage when Cooney fired in the second, and before the break, Geeney bagged the third.

James O’Connor found the net for Annaghminnon’s only score of the half as his side trailed by 3-8 to 1-0.

Rovers did pick up the pace in the second half and added a goal through Dylan McArdle, while Dwayne Markey and Rory Phelan pointed.
